Welcome to 2018 Friends! I hope you are feeling excited, inspired and focused on making this year – your best year YET!!! I enjoyed 2017, it was a good year… I not only grew, but I also learned more about myself and what I want out of life, which leads me to My word for this year…
SELF-DISCIPLINE (GRIT): the ability to make yourself do things when you should, even if you don’t want to do them. (GRIT: courage and resolve; strength of character.)
As you can see, my WORD, is actually two words. I choose self-discipline, because it speaks power to me! It tells me – I can possess the power to override my flighty feelings – that I can choose to live beyond moods and bad days! In all honesty, my moods have often been the predictor of the level of motivation in my day. In other words, some days I hit my goals, while other days I forgot I even had them. So in 2018 I am ditching my old way of thinking and embracing the mindset of self-discipline.
This leads me into my second word – Grit. I choose grit to remind myself, self-discipline is not about punishing myself or beating my mind into submission, but rather it is about building strong character and being determined to achieve my goals. Grit tells me – girl you are worthy of your dreams! Keep your eyes forward! Small actions add up to big goals – keep going! I love the idea of being a “Gritty” person – full of purpose and deeply connected to my vision.
So there you have it!!! Self-discipline and Grit are my POWER words of 2018. Now onto my goals.. I keep it simple when goal setting – I choose 5 areas I want to focus on then assign specific goals.
My 5 areas are:
- Fitness – Move my body for 30 min 5x a week.
- Wealth – Own my household budget (food/extras)
- Spiritual – 30 min a day with God
- Relationship – 30 min a day connecting with my “Hunk-o-licious” Hubby!!
- Passion – Post 1x a week and Blog 1x a week
This is where I am starting. As the year goes on they may change and evolve, but I feel confident these goals will keep me challenged and growing!
So lets talk about you now! What is your word? What are your goals? Creating a focused vision for your new year is very powerful! I want to encourage you to take time to dream and listen to your hearts desires. It is those desires that will help you cultivate a strong vision for this year. A vision connected to your souls destiny is sure to reap you big rewards.
I highly suggest, picking a word that resonates deep within you.. Choose a word that will help you dig deep into you will-power. Maybe you need to have more faith, or trust, or find more enjoyment from life. Whatever you decide, remember that you are setting the tone for the year. So take some time to ponder on your word and choose wisely! Once you have your word, think of 5 areas you want to focus on strengthening – then choose specific goals to coordinate.
Tips for creating your goals:
- Be specific ( if you want to workout more – identify how many days, length, style)
- Write your goals down, share them with other and hang them up so you can see them daily.
- Choose an accountability partner. On tough days they can encourage you and on awesome days they can celebrate with you in your success.
- Make vision board– find pictures that reflect your goals and give you a visual to focus on.
I hope you are feeling more inspired and motivated to make this year an awesome one! It doesn’t always matter when you start, just that you DO start. Choose today, begin identifying your word, making goals and creating YOUR powerful vision for 2018. I am believing in all of us and cheering you on!
