I am currently 21 weeks pregnant and I am FEELING pregnant! Anyone who has been pregnant, knows what I mean. For awhile, I was feeling super motivated with my workouts. I had tons of energy and enthusiasm to workout 5-6 times a week – it was GREAT! Then… I got sick and I remained sick for about 3 weeks. I had to take two rounds of antibiotics (which I haven’t had to do for at least 5 years) and it just SUCKED. I was still pushing myself to workout during the first week of the cold, but then I realized I was over doing it and rest was more important!
So now, that I am feeling better, I was ready to start working out consistently again. YAY!!!! BUT, my motivation and enthusiasm have not be very present… AH!
I LOVE the feeling of being motivated – Motivation is GREAT! It’s this powerful energy that fills us up with ideas and enthusiasm to go after what we desire ; It is like this super positive HIGH that makes you feel like you can DO ANYTHING you can imagine. But, just like any emotional high, it slowly wears off… So what does one do when the motivational high wears off??

If you want to get consistent results you have to train yourself to be consistent in your efforts! This is where self -discipline comes in. Self-discipline does not rely on motivation – it is focused on establishing strong habits. When you have a Self-discipline mindset you are focused on taking action today to build your VISION for tomorrow. A self-disciplined person knows their will be times of great motivation and either times they will feel like giving up – but they are not controlled by their MOODS or EMOTIONS. They stay connected to their vision, they build strong habits and surrender to the process of GROWTH.
I will be the first to admit, I am a WORK -IN-PROGRESS – BUT, I am confident that I am heading in the right direction!! I may not be self-disciplined every day, but I am quick to notice when I have taken a detour and I get back on track. I have come to learn that Growth sometimes looks like – taking 3 steps forward and 2 steps back – although, if you get caught up on when you fall and lose sight of how far you have COME – you will get STUCK.
My finally words of encouragement for US, is – Keep your eyes forward, focus on what you can DO today to build your vision for tomorrow. when motivation IS present – USE IT – but not matter how you are FEELING – RELY on your self-discipline to CONSISTENTLY move you towards your vision.
You are doing amazing – keep it up!!
