“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!”
Over the last couple of days, I encountered a stomach bug, which was not ideal, but I had time to rest and hear from the Holy Spirit. As I was resting the other night I watched the movie, “MIRACLE”, and there was a scene that really grabbed my attention.
In this scene, the hockey team had just lost their first game. The hockey players seemed casual about it, but the coach was not happy! As the game ended and everyone started to leave, the coach had his players get back on the ice. He then reprimanded them, telling them they lost – because of their weak endurance. So he had them run” suicides”, over and over again! The famous line he said after they finished each time was-
I think this is what Paul is saying to us here in Philippians 4:4 – Think of Paul, as your Spiritual Coach, teaching you how to stand spiritually STRONG in your Faith and withstand the challenges of life. He’s, saying:
AGAIN- REJOICE IN THE LORD, AND AGAIN!
Even when living in this fallen world, where you are surrounded by fear, oppression, and death – REJOICE IN THE LORD!!! Rejoice that this earth is not your permeant home, rejoice in knowing that the LORD will provide, protect and forever be present!! REJOICE!!!
Paul knew, that this Christian life is impossible without Christ. He knew that we would need ENDURANCE training so that we could run our spiritual races all the way to VICTORY! This is why he urges us to REJOICE, focusing our mind on things above (Philippians 4:8), not getting distracted by the temporal challenges we face here on earth. (Philippians 3:19-20)
If you have been feeling weary in your race, Get back to the basics! Focus your mind on eternal truths, Take your eyes of what is right in front of you and get your eyes back on Christ. Praise him, Worship Him, draw strength from Him! It is only when we are aligned with Him, gaining our strength from His presence that we can Run our Races ALL THEY WAY TO GLORY!
I hope this encourages you, train SMART!
